Flying the Kite with spirit
— How to Work With the Universe Instead of Waiting on It
If it is meant to be, it will happen. But there is something important that sentence leaves out.
There is a belief that moves quietly through spiritual circles — one that sounds beautiful on the surface but can quietly keep people stuck for years.
It goes something like this: if it is meant to be, the universe will make it happen.
And then the waiting begins. Waiting for a sign. Waiting for the door to open. Waiting for Divine will to swoop in and deliver the life that was promised. And when it doesn't arrive — when the dream stays a dream and the door stays closed — the conclusion many people reach is that it simply wasn't meant to be. That the universe said no. That Spirit is withholding.
I want to offer you a different way of looking at this. And I want to do it through the image of a kite.
The kite you choose to fly
Imagine you have a deep, soul-level longing to fly a kite. Not a passing whim — a genuine, persistent calling. You feel it in your chest. You know it is yours.
Now imagine you walk into a shop and choose the flimsiest kite on the shelf. Thin material, short string, barely any surface area to catch the wind. Or perhaps you decide to build one yourself at home — but you rush it, use whatever is lying around, and put it together without much care or intention.
Then you head to a park surrounded by tall trees on a still, windless day. You throw the kite into the air. It falls. You try again. It falls again. Eventually you sit down on the grass, defeated, and look up at a sky that offers nothing.
I really wanted this, you think. Why won't the universe let me have it?
But here is the question worth sitting with — did you give the universe anything to work with?
Co-creation is not passive
The universe, Spirit, the Divine — whatever name you hold for the force that moves through all things — is not a vending machine. You do not insert a wish and wait for the delivery. It is a co-creative relationship. And like all relationships, it requires both parties to show up.
We have free will. That is one of the most profound gifts of the human experience. Divine will exists alongside it — but it will never override our choices, our efforts, or our preparation. Spirit works with us. Not instead of us.
Now imagine the kite story differently.
You choose the strongest kite in the shop — wide wingspan, quality material, built to catch even the smallest updraft. Or you build it yourself, by hand, with love and patience and attention to every detail. You construct it with the care of someone who believes in what they are creating.
Then you check the forecast. You find the day when the wind will be strongest, most consistent, most generous. You drive to the open park — no trees, no obstacles, nothing to tangle the string or break the flight. You stand in the field, hold the kite up, and let go.
And the wind — which was always there, always ready, always willing — lifts it.
The kite soars. And you can say with your whole heart — I worked with Spirit. I worked with the universe. I worked with my higher self. And together, we did this.
What this looks like in real life
The kite is your dream. Your calling. The thing your soul keeps returning to no matter how many times life pulls you in another direction.
The quality of the kite is the preparation you are willing to do — the learning, the healing, the inner work, the skills you develop, the foundations you lay before you expect the wind to come.
The park with no trees is the environment you create — the relationships, the habits, the boundaries, the space in your life that allows something new to take flight without immediately being caught in old entanglements.
And the wind? The wind is Spirit. It is always there. It does not pick favourites. It does not withhold from the deserving and give to the lucky. It simply responds to what is offered to it. Give it a flimsy kite on a still day surrounded by obstacles, and it has nothing to lift. Give it something strong, well-made and open to the sky — and it will do what it has always done.
It will carry you.
The question to ask yourself
When something you deeply want is not yet manifesting in your life, the most powerful question is not — why won't the universe give this to me?
It is — what kite am I flying? And have I found my open sky?
The universe is not working against you. It never was. It is simply waiting for you to see your true value and step into it.
Build the kite. Find the sky. And then — let go.
